Historic Number of Immigrants Offered Permanent Residence in Canada in Early 2021
On Feb. 13, 2021, Canada invited 27,332 immigrants currently in Canada to apply to become permanent residents of Canada. It was the largest single group offered from the Express Entry system in Canadian history. This particular group was from the Canadian Experience Class.
The Express Entry system is part of the Canadian government’s immigration system. It is used to manage applications from skilled workers for permanent residence. It includes the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class.
On Feb. 17, 2021, 654 immigrants from the Provincial Nominee Program were also invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada. The Provincial Nominee Program is a provincial program in Canada for skilled workers to legally immigrate to Canada and strengthen local economies.
That makes for a total of 27,986 invitations to apply to become permanent residents of Canada.
Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada hopes that in 2021, it will welcome 401,000 immigrants to Canada. The country hopes to make more temporary residents into permanent residents during the pandemic. It also hopes to continue to look outside the country for skilled labour. These avenues will help boost the Canadian economy during the post-pandemic recovery.
So, now is a great time to look at immigrating to Canada and the many ways open to do so!
